I always wanted to be a mom. I got my wish when my precious little boy was born. He was perfect in every way. As he grew, I compared him to other children we knew and he was taller, more handsome, his eyes were bluer, & his cheeks were rosier. He never got sick. He never complained. He was after all perfect. When people started suggesting that he might have a problem, I shrugged it off. No, I said he's just shy and an only child. When I finally realized that something was wrong, I never suspected austism. I was shocked by the diagnosis. Now, I had to go from being his mom to also being his teacher, his voice, and his advocate. It took me a long time to absorb all of this. Recently, I asked him what was good about autism and he said that the ideas stay in his head for a long time so when they do come out they are perfect and I agree they are perfect...just like him!!!
