Jerry Lee Lewis - The EP Collection Vol.2 (CD 2002)
Jerry Lee Lewis' sun recordings, therefore you know they are going to be brilliant, and you wont be disapointed, this is vol 2 of Jerry Lee's e.p. collection, and the tracks speak for themselves "breathless, lets talk about us,little queenie, break up,mean woman blues" all rock n roll classics of the highest degree, but also you get slightly rarer tracks "ballad of billy joe,im feeling sorry,as long as i live," then theres a couple of pure country, Hanks "i could never be ashamed of you" and "it hurt me so" proving that the killer was a master country singer (as he was to later prove on the 1969 LP "another place another time," my personal favourite album ever),but the real bonuses on this cd is alternate takes of "great balls of fire, high school confidental and whole lotta shakin" totally brilliant ,wild, rockin tracks that showed while in sun studios,Jerry Lee Lewis couldnt put a foot wrong,(musicaly or top of the piano),rockin regards jules

Charlie Gracie - It's Fabulous...it's Charlie Gracie (T
There were,in 1951 only two white performers playing what would later be called "rock n roll", yes 2 years before Elvis took those first steps into sun studios, one was Bill Haley,at that time making excellent rockabilly tracks with the saddlemen, the other was Charlie Gracie the philadelphian born singer, guitarist and all round good guy (still performing now and if you get the chance have a chat, he's great). This 32 track cd collects his greatest hits, unreleased, demos and live recordings,The hits contained here is the soundtrack of the 1950s .,and to many of the people who were around then these songs will act like a catalyst for many memories, songs like "butterfly, fabulous, wandering eyes"and"ninety nine ways" will live on forever, but dont forget genuine hard rockers "heart like a rock, crazy girl" and "just lookin". The earliest recordings here in are from 51 ,52 & shows Charlie in a jazz/rockabilly/boogie feel, portraying the start of rock n roll. The great thing about this set is it features live, unrelease and demo recordings as well as the hits,so if you want a Charlie Gracie cd this is the one for you.

Roxy Music - Siren (CD 1991)
1975 and roxy musics 5th album, quite simply 100% brilliant,to me the first two albums, roxy music and for your pleasure were patchy,a couple of brilliant tracks (lady tron, remake remodel,do the strand)but a couple of tracks that let them down badly, but they were interesting and when early roxy got it right they really did,eno adding some great touches, then came eno-less roxy and the stranded LP,a more even album all tracks being either good or very good, the next was country life , an LP that seems lacking in attitude, force hard to put it into words but apart from thrill of it all,out of the blue and all i want is you nothing much, then came siren, getting rid of the roughness of the first albums but not reaching the dullness of post-siren,this was their high point, Ever note of the piano, every lyric, every word sang by Ferry is to perfection,i bought it in 1975 when i was 10 and loved it,bought a new copy and played it after many years and its still as brilliant (the only low point being love is the drug,a warning of the route later roxy would take),whirlwind, nightingale ,just another high all perfect and the rest are just a delight, this really was their peak, not a peak in creativity,i suppose that came with the inventiveness of the first 2 LPs, but a peak in crafting the perfect pop song, lyrics and tune, but avoiding the blandness of mass produced rubbish, keeping an attitude, genuine ideas and energy and a sense that on this album here was a man brimming with ideas. One thing i have to say is how much paul thompson the drummer has made to the sound of Roxy Music, underated force that helped to give roxy its unique sound,so there you have it ,"SIREN ,THE 5TH ROXY MUSIC ALBUM " and the best.
