About us

We offer a wealth of antiquarian books, specialising in early and hand-press printing – but not excluding all others! Our bias is towards the unusual, the interesting and the important – and we try to offer our customers a varied selection, along with advice on library development and special purchases.

We’re based in the heart of the Dorset countryside, with a Wareham antiquarian bookshop housed within a beautiful Grade II Listed Georgian Building, we also travel far and wide to buy, sell and advise on rare books.

We are happy to offer advice on book collecting and library development, and are pleased to provide a specialised valuation service. We are keen buyers - if you have any old or interesting books that you are looking to sell then please do come along and see us.

The book was packed like I've never seen anything so lovingly packed. All I found was a slight dusting in the final layer of tissue from four centuries of degradation. The book was exactly as pictured. It got caught up in customs, to which Tom informed me before I even had time to react. He even sent the form to fill out and insisted that I copy him on the transmittal so that he could chase it down for me. He included a lovely personal handwritten note about its origin. Great seller for sure!

A first class experience from start to finish. A detailed bibliographic overview plus by fully setting out the provenance of the book it made it easy to have a complete understanding of the book. My EBay question was answered promptly making things easy and effortless to deal with. The book was packaged absolutely beautifully and sent by next day postage. I couldn’t recommend Antiquates more highly- as a librarian and an archivist in my day job I can safely say you are buying from the best!
