If there’s nothing in it for the other person, you may get in his pockets once, but in the long term your going to lose a customer and will inherit a deserved black mark in the financial community. It goes without saying that not everyone’s desires should be important to you. But the desires of those with whom you deal in business are of paramount importance to your long term success. Value for value is still the only formula I’ve found that works. There must be something in it for the other guy if you wish to keep dealing with him, and, as a bonus, he’ll probably pass along the good word that you’re a value for value type of person. Let the other fellow know that you’re out to make the best possible deal for yourself, but not at the expense of losing a long-term relationship. No matter how much you try to make on any one situation, it most likely can’t approach the amount that can be realized over a period of years during which you will be able to deal with the same person many times.
