Fascinating
A wonderful book that really gives you an insight into the British Empire in Afghanistan. At first it takes a while to understand the differences between the various tribes but of course you don't need to be too clear about it to understand the story.
Of course many countries have had native militias who have mixed feelings about the occupying forces........
A story of courage and endurance and indeed the comradeship of people under arms.

Great fun
Very entertaining! The stories are sometimes a little silly - but the characters are all very well drawn. The interplay between Barnaby and Troy is very amusing - the settings are delightful (lovely gardens, big houses, little cottages...).
