First Smart/touch phone, obsessions and the wife
I bought the T-Mobile Pulse as an experiment with touch screen phones and intended to sell it back on ebay if I didn't like it, well I still have it and have no intention of going back to my old keypad phone. I found it very easy to use and there are an amazing range of Apps available for it, many of them free, which make it much more than just a phone.
For the technically minded the phone has Android 2.1 version from T-Mobile. The screen responds well to the touch and has a good resolution, which is more than adequate for looking at photos and videos. The camera produces photographs, which aren't gallery quality by any stretch of the imagination, but are fine for everyday shots and remember the old saying, the best camera is always the one you have with you. I'm not an avid texter, but the full on screen keyboard is a delight to use, no more repetitive strain injury from pressing a key 3 times to get a letter.
The built in speaker for MP3s, etc. is good and tracks can be loaded onto the Mini SD card, I beleive it will take up to 32Gig card.
As a PayAsYouGo user the facility to use the built WiFi to access the Internet is a key feature of the phone, it's responsive, fast enough not to frustrate and is free, no roaming charges. My wife is now complaing that every where we go I'm looking for a free WiFi point and she thinks I'm obsessed with the phone, she could be right, I'm so impressed, it's not just a phone it's a computer in your pocket and this is from someone who was a occasional mobile phone user.
Like other Android phones it can't run Flash applications and I can't find a BBC iplayer for it. On the other hand the Star Maps App, which shows the planets, etc. in the night sky, woowed my grandkids.
The battery will last up to 3 days when on standby with the WiFi and Bluetooth turned on and making/receiving a few calls a day, however it will be considerably less when accessing the Internet, etc.
Given the cost of this phone compared to other high end phones, it's an absolute snip at the price and I would recommend it, if you like me you want to dip your toe in the touch phone world.
I also purchased cheaply via Ebay a Orange San Fransisco as a trial (my wife is right, obsession coming on)and found this to have the edge on speed and responsiveness over the Pulse, but it does have Android 2.2, which may be the reason.
Anyway, if you are looking to fall out with your wife? Buy a Smart phone with Wifi.
If anyone has an APP that makes you 10 years younger by using it, then my wife may take an interest in the phone.
