In my view, a great used buy!
Just a personal view which may differ from others experiences. This era of machines (ours turned out to be a 630 with wider?screen) seem to be coming to the end of their first lives and are now trickling fast into their second lives as domestic and backup laptops. I like Dells on the whole because they seem pretty tough and generally reliable - their extensive use in schools seems to back this up - and cheap used spares are becoming readily available. I've found the basic spec sometimes a little too low with some, but extra memory and possibly faster processors can often be fitted to advantage I've found. Ours used XP pro with no issues other than sorting out the system drivers (we had to manually download them but once installed all was well) and with the required added memory, seems to cope well with Vista, although by modern standards it's a bit slow. One final thing - the sound on these Dells is usually pretty good too and the graphics fine for all but advanced gaming, which I doubt you'd ever use these things for anyway.. For the general domestic surfing and office work we do at home and using Windows XP SP3, these machines are excellent in my opinion and there are now more of them coming to market, which will bring prices down a bit. The fact that they can be upgraded to Vista and Windows 7 should see them in use for a number of years yet I think as well.

Great used buy!
For a while, these were Sennheiser's top model and I thought them discontinued. However, they still seem to be alive and kicking, which is a good thing in my view. I tried to live with a pair and loved the open and very clear presentation on the whole. However, in my setting the sound breakthrough into the room beyond annoyed the wife sitting close by and after long term listening I found them strangely compressed in their portrayal of "dynamics." This may not have been the headphones fault I discovered years later to be fair, but something else in my audio system. A family member has his own music production studio and swears by them (he also used HD480's before) so I'm inclined to go with his recommendation. They've good used prices too............

Good all rounder
I needed a set of headphones that retained as much HiFi quality as possible without breaking sound through to the room beyond (as a pair of HD600's I also had did) and at a reasonable price. In my view, these do the trick and, used domestically, give little away to the more expensive HD25 model with its fancier headband arrangement. Most closed back headphones sound dreadful when listening at home to quality music - all "cupped hands vocals" and "screechy, fizzy treble." These minimise this almost completely, just a little extra sparkle up top giving things away (most headphones do this anyway to a greater or lesser extent, so it's not really a problem). The bass end is full and clear, only the deepest notes played loudly sometimes sounding a little distorted (I need to get a dedicated headphone amp anyway, which may sort this). The midband is very good indeed in my view, having good clarity if it's there in the recording. Watch the volume though, as they will go pretty loud before you know it. The only other closed back Sennheiser I'd suggest that might be more comfortable for long term domestic listening is the HD265, which fits right round your ear unlike these, which can give you sweaty ears after a long listening session. Great for HiFi listening and far too good for the average DJ (smile) I recommend these headphones unreservedly!
