All About MeWhat everyone should know about me
We are a charity that supports and promotes self help for anyone that is unfortunate enough to become homeless. We all live in self funding communities. We achieve this by selling donated items and furniture on eBay and in our charity shops.

Emmaus-the future of mankind
Emmaus is a French idea that uses a free market economy to practise a form of communal living by collecting, recycling and selling unwanted furniture and bric-a-brac. All of the funds are used to support our community of 25 ex-homeless. We provide counselling and training in order that people with severe problems within society are no longer excluded and get the help they need with mental health issues, bereavement, estrangement from loved ones and downright bad luck like dodgy landlords etc. Our aim is to be entirely self funding and work along side other local charities to help build a strong sense of community. All of our residents are expected to work to the best of their abilities for five days a week and are paid a small allowance in return.
Business InformationHistory/background
Our St.Albans Community was established in 2000 however the first U.K. one was started 16 years ago in Cambridge. Emmaus have been established on the continent for 60 years and it works! We don't rely on state benefits and our aim for all of the communities is to be totally self sufficient. A lot of emmaus' have already achieved this, it's hard but not impossible.
