Cheap designer fakes on eBay.
I first visited Ebay five years ago, looking for an Hermes scarf as a gift. Two hours of looking at listings soon left me confused. There seemed to be a lot of items for sale that did not look right, even to my untrained eye. Five years on and far too much time spent on the Internet leave me fairly confident at spotting Hermes fakes. I hope to be able to pass on some of this information to other innocent Ebay users, to help them avoid paying top designer prices for cheap imitation goods. Please have a look at My Guides on the easy way to avoid the worst blunders, and some close up looks at some of the most common fakes regularly being listed. If you find the guides helpful then please click on the YES box. This moves them higher up the GUIDES AND REVIEWS list and makes them more accessible to others. You can leave comments in the Guest Book, and contact me through the Ebay mail system. Remember to give me your email address if you want me to reply! Thanks, Geoff.

Thank you so much for your help Geoff!

Thank you Stephanie. Copyright marks do move around from issue to re-issue. The copyright on La Danse is often clearly visible in the bottom left border of some issues. Glad you found your almost invisible copyright mark in GREY on DARKER GREY in the top left, by the care label. This has solved the puzzle that had been worry me about an obviously genuine but apparently unmarked pale La Danse, that passed under my hand a while ago!

First, let me thank you for all your hard work. It's very informative, thoug now I'm a bit worried. I bought a La Danse scarf in sepia. It's referenced on hsci, and the pattern/colorway matches but I couldn't find the copyright on it. Are there fakes of it? I wanted to email you and send you pics but ebay won't let me :-(. Loveitlshuz... sorry missed you question about jacquard silk versus twill silk. Twill silk has a diagonal pattern through it because the horizontal threads alternately jump two of the vertical ones. This type of silk is said to flow better. Jacquard silk is actually patterned in the weaving process. Have a look at my guide on Hermes Jacquard Scarves on this link: http://reviews.ebay.com/Hermes-Jacquard-Silk-Scarves_W0QQugidZ10000000013338979 ... so far the fakers have not found it economical to attempt to reproduce these patterns.

Crackerpaws....You should not list any fake items on Ebay, as you will just be continuing the illegal trade. If you list it as a fake, copy or duplicate it will be removed straight away. You will also be risking removal of the item, and possibly yourself from Ebay if you attempt it.

349elisa and loveitslshuz... sorry for late reply... I have been out of Internet coverage for a while. First, all Hermes scarves are produced in a range of colours, and often re-issued in a different range of colours. They are many of the more popular designs that have twenty or more genuine colour combinations. Second, the seller you are referring to only sells genuine items to my knowledge. The only comment I have seen about them is that occasionally Brand New items appear to have marks from wear on them.

cheapa33... The letters you see on the ends of the long care labels from time to time are batch identifiers. They have no significance and are quite genuine.

Is the fake scarf worth anything at all to put on e bay What would something like this bring in or is it a waste of time to list Thanks crackerpaws

I have a Hermes scarf that looks real and the label is the same as the one in your guide that is real BUT there is a capital "A" on each end of the label. Does that mean it is fake or real? Thanks

yeah.. i would be interested too to know your opinion about this seller, as in the past he sold a scarf (390094550540) which is very different from the one sold by another "trusted" seller (200420893248), and now my point is: which is the fake one? thanks
