This particular design is not the least bit unknown! Aladin is from 1972 and by Francoise Heron. Store labels are very common in this period, both from Harrods and more commonly from the US stores which were required to put on a country of origin label before Hermes included this on theirs. They do not indicate that the scarf was a special issue.

i echo the perfect red box, from whom i made my first-ever ebay purchases a few weeks ago ... since when, and you will understand this, i've become mildly obsessed with trawling thru ebay, looking at scarves ... am intrigued by one in particular, about which i feel v. dubious - item no. 330317103089. even messaged the seller, but no - they're convinced it's a special edition for harrods ... not sure of the ethics involved, but cd you perhaps tell me if it wd be sensible to be suspicious of a care label like this, in the context of an otherwise unknown and unsigned design? it's pretty, and maybe reasonable value at £50 - but, but, but ...

Geoff, I have a shirt that looks like an Hermes that I would like to sell on ebay, but I'm not sure if it is not a fake. I went to Hermes NYC yesterday, 28 Feb, to see if someone could authenticate it for me, but they said they don't do authentications. They did say that it looked like one of theirs. If you took a look at the photos do you think you could let me know if it's real or not. My ex-hubby gave it to me for my birthday years ago. Thanks. Oh, my ebay ID is lafemmeamrcn.

Thank you so much. I am a research fanatic! I was given a Hermes scarf by a German company and after reading your info I'm pretty convinced it is truly Hermes. It meets so many of your qualifications. It is titled Colours and (roughly drawn smiling face) Fantasy, dated 2004 and signed by SophieK. Herme's-Paris marked in design. The care instructions are identical to your samples sewn in 3 corners w/background color thread. I have it in the original box with tissue, the original brown identification ribbon and was very confused as to what it all meant till I read your guide. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. It is a work of art to me something I definitely enjoy admiring. If you are familiar with this info, I would appreciate you confirming this info. I understand you are not in the free appraisal business, but would surely enjoy hearing what you might think. Thanks, M. Drake

Hi Geoff, Great site. I wonder if you are able to help me. I have two genuine Hermes scarves. One is Le Promenade De Longchamps signed by Le Doux and the other is Le Bien Aller signed by J du Fougarolle and would love to know if you have any idea just how much these beauties may be worth? I've had them for around 25 years. Would really appreciate hearing back from you or indeed anyone else who may know the answer. Many thanks

Hello Geoffe, How would one find the colour issues for a certain design...I am thinking Kosmima in particular? Thank you. irisrivers@hotmail.com

Geoff, thanks for the useful information. I have just started selling Hermes scarves on ebay (aka gold-balls). My current stock of 8 scarves consists of my mother-in-laws first cupboard clearance. She was lucky enough to work for House of Fraser and as such was entitled to very generous staff discounts when she made her purchases, I also know that the items I have in my possession are all genuine. My main problem is that being a 'new' seller of Hermes goods, my first and current listings have not attracted any bids, although there has been a fair interest based on the number of visitors. Additionally, ebay would only allow me to list 2 of the intended 8 items at a time. My question to you is you have given plenty of advice to purchasers - but do you have any advice for 'new' Hermes sellers on how to build a reputation without having previously sold any other Hermes products ? With very best wishes, David Goldring (david.goldring@ntlworld.com)

Thanks Rebecca. I don't mention chiffon scarves anywhere... because I don't know the first thing about them! But I do know plenty of people who have them. G.
