Asteroid...a hidden gem
A disaster movie like they used to be! Stripped of packing & fluff, this movie will appeal to the fans of Irwin Allen classics from the '70's, whilst the special effects and carefully constructed model sets are a visual treat. Pretty much edge-of-the-seat action from the start, and convincingly acted for a change. The movie runs for about 2 hours, but doesn't feel like it, due to the relentless action. Highly recommended...give it a try!

They don't make 'em like this any more!
If you're looking for a great feelgood movie, then this is it! Enjoyable no frills nonsense, performed very well by a stellar cast, with a strong storyline, and in many respects superior to the first movie...Bill And Teds Excellent Adventure, and follows on nicely from it. With comedy films these days being mostly unfunny lampoons of big hit films (and for the most part totally unfunny) the reissue of this classic offers welcomed relief. A 'keeper' in every sense...go back to it anytime, and it'll still be just as good as it was on the first viewing. How many films can combine robots, Death, time travel, villians, heroes, and rock bands (and get away with it?) Buy with confidence & enjoy!

Jody Grind - Interaction - An Anthology
It's very hard to be objective over a subject matter as emotive, and personal as music. Especially when its an album, or set such as this is. I bought this little jem on vinyl in 1974, from, of all places, Woolworths, in their 50p bargain bin...a place regularly frequented, being a skint young man! How many albums can you return to, on an occasional basis, and still enjoy equally as much 35 years on from its first playing? I can only count a few, yet this album is certainly one of them. For those of us not familiar with their work, Jody Grind are one of rock historys little wonders...amazing in equal quantities as to why they were not colossal stadium fillers at the time, and why their record label didn't give them the 'push' that they so richly deserved at the time. After all, they (Transatlantic) had enough faith in the band to offer a two album deal, so what gives? This two disc set has certainly cleaned up their sound, resulting in a very enjoyable remaster, equalling the 180 gram virgin vinyl reissue currently doing the rounds. The first album, released (I think) in 1969, has a raw, bluesier feel to it, with some lengthy tracks, with a psyche/acid tinged quality, but feeling a little 'untight' in places, and for my money, going in several different directions at the same time, without actually gelling into a coherent form, but fun nonetheless, and credit where credit's due, interestingly experimental. Kind of like a musical each-way bet, instead of putting all of their money on the nose. In many respects, comparisons and the camps occupied therein between 'One Step On', and 'Far Canal' mirror the divided camps arguing if 'Piper At The Gates Of Dawn' is better than 'Saucerful Of Secrets'...there really is that much of a difference. The second album..Far Canal, will appeal to those of us who like the heavier prog soaked sounds typically found on early Vertigo/ Harvest/ Nepentha releases, along the lines of May Blitz meets the Sabs...blues tinged, riff laden sounds, with truly kick-ass drumming, and Tim Hinkleys amazing keyboard demolition. Thankfully, these recordings are released in their unedited entirety, with bonus tracks on each..exactly as their vinyl reissue counterparts. Anyone who has recently purchased the May Blitz two-album on one CD See For Miles reissue will know how disappointing it is to hear your favourite albums cruelly edited to save the plastic by not making them a 2-CD set! This reissue is not only staggering value for money, but an absolute must have in any serious rock-prog collection. Don't think about it, BUY IT! Graham K
