'Handsome Dicks' was the record shop I ran in the early '80's in Weymouth. Since then I have been foraging for nuts and berries, raising kids etc. This seems to be the right time and forum in which to resurrect the name, and the spirit!!!Excelsior!!!

Mostly CDs and movies, but soon to move into selling books (Clever Dicks?) My wife would be delighted to see this stuff go out, but I fear that it may need to be replaced.....

Stuff that floats my boat. Big fan of psychedelia, beautiful packaging and bargains.

Procol Harum, Beach Boys, Annette Peacock, Byrds, the usual. I really only buy CD format these days - I don't buy into the vinyl thing any longer.

English, The international language of Lurve......

My kids, doing up the house, avoiding a career, running a putting green, reading, movies, food, wine. Gluttony and sloth, basically.

Catcher in the rye, Green Man, James Lee Burke, John Connolly, Harpo Speaks!, Michael Connolley, Anthony Burgess, Stephen King, Gore Vidal. Guilty pleasures include Lee Child, Mickey Spillane and trashy horror stuff.

Trashy horror stuff, anything that doesn't feature Juliet Roberts, Michael Caine, Tom Cruise or Julie Walters. The kiss of death to any pleasurable experience.

Psychedelic, innovative, groovy and wild. Plus some very serious stuff like David Ackles, Judee Sill, Jimmy Webb - that kind of thing.

Blind Date (new series fronted by Noddy Holder, anyone?), Gangsters, Simpsons, The Prisoner, Call my Bluff - that kind of thing.

For 6 months of the year I run the putting green at Greenhill in Weymouth. That would be the summer months, by the way - Easter to Halloween. The rest of the time I do stuff like Carpentry, teaching (Carpentry and Bridge), and I hang around at boot sales, in the Record Exchange in Notting Hill Gate. It's a toss up where to scatter my ashes, but probably the putting green.

The shop ran for three years back in the '80's. How do you measure success and failure of things like that? Did I make any money? Nooooo!!! Did I enjoy it? Sure - it was a gas. Would I prefer to have had a career with the Halifax? (Hi Howard!) Forget it. Do I hanker after the old days? Well, a tiny bit, but not much Today is good...
