Peter Parker was a geeky high school student when his class took a trip to a science fair. It was at this exhibition that he was bitten by a RADIOACTIVE SPIDER. After being bitten, he developed incredible superpowers: heightened strength, agility, ability to cling to surfaces and a spider sense that warned him of approaching danger. At first Peter thought he should use his new abilities to make money; fashioning a homemade costume of red and blue, he entered a competition with a pro wrestler and won the match and prize money, earning the name SPIDER-MAN. After one of his bouts, Peter was presented with the opportunity of stopping a burglar; he chose not to act, believing that it was wrong to interfere. That night the burglar entered the home of Peter's adoptive parents, Uncle Ben and Aunt May. During the break-in the criminal shot Ben. Peter felt guilty, knowing that if he had acted earlier his uncle would still be alive. Peter vowed never to let bad things happen to good people.
