Rab Ascent Bivi. RRP - £175

Excellent but with a flaw.
This is an excellent bivvy bag. I've just returned from a week's wild camping on the coastal cliffs of western Cornwall and used this bag every night so I have some live, first hand experience to share. Firstly, great colour. Second, good pack size. Thirdly, it's not heavy. Four, robustly built. So far the eVent fabric is beading marvellously. How it will fare in time, I have idea. I had no rain on my trip but did experience some heavy foggy night-time precipitation. The bag did well. The footbed of my down bag did get slightly wet. I don't know if this is a design fault or to be expected but it has never happened with my old-school Phoenix Gore-Tex bivvy bag, perhaps because it's not a mummy shape and has a lot more room. To be fair, nights were hot and I sweated. I did use the mosquito net and enjoyed its presence, made me feel safe from some of the critters at large, (Main concern - tics. I was in an area populated by some wild Dartmoor ponies). In short this is a well designed bag, quality materials, excellent stitching and seam sealing, good zips, and a solid velcro closure (which I'm still not sure why it exists?) This brings me onto my main gripe. It seems impossible in use to not, at some stage whilst wriggling in the night, get the bug netting snagged onto the velcro strips. It is impossible to remove this netting from the velcro without damaging it. I cannot really think why the velcro is there? Does anyone seal themselves totally inside a bivvy bag? Even in rain? What about fresh air to breathe? My bug netting has now been damaged. I guess it could be replaced, but for a bag of this quality it shouldn't be an issue. If you want this bag for use without the netting, I give it 10/10. If you want to use this bag with the netting, you have been warned. Out in the field it'll get damaged. Unless you cover or just completely remove the velcro. But basically, gripes aside, it's an excellent bag.

Fantastic frisbee!
As good a frisbee as I've ever played with. Ages well. Soft enough. A good weight to cope with moderate wind and to enable it to fly a good distance. Fantastic on a beach! Comes in a range of colours. I've owned many over the years and they've always been great! I can't think of a simpler way to have fun than flinging a frisbee about on a beach!
Maru Ear Plugs Silicone Clear

Simple & excellent.
These plugs are a comfortable (and cheap - you can spend many, many more times the price of these getting some custom-moulded plugs that don't perform any better) way to prevent water ingress and the onset of 'surfer's ear', particularly relevant if, like me, you do your swimming in cold UK coastal seawater. They are an excellent fit, really comfy, work fantastically well once they're positioned correctly, (a case of orienting them the right way around then 'squidging' them in), come in a handy case that fits neatly inside my Aquasphere goggles case (alongside the goggles) and seem to last a really, really long time. My current pair have been used many times a week from March to Nov for the last four years. They're cheap too, so if you happen to drop and lose one, it's not the end of the world. I thoroughly recommend!
