    Wellwater - bring new bucket
Picked this up cheap after buying a later album by the band, and sadly it's a bit too generic American rock, lacking the psychedelic edge of later albums. But it improves with playing, and now I just chuck it on when I need a bit of noise to scare the crows out the garden. Loud, moderately obnoxious - aah, classic rock material. Probably for completists only, but maybe I missed something.

Not quite Chixculub, but some bang for your buck
Friend of mine told me that Laura Veirs studied geology then gave it up to be a songwriter (don't know if this is true and don't really care). I bought Carbon Glacier on the strength of that and really enjoyed it. Year of Meteors is more of the same - it's not really a great step forward, but it's good solid stuff. If you enjoyed Carbon Glacier, then you'll have no problem with this one. I think the cover shot is the first photo of LV I've seen (what, me read the music press? Away with you!) and you could quite easily cast her as a librarian in a movie. Pleasant enough, but after CG and Orphan Mae which came out before and after CG, I was hoping for a gnat's more. Maybe it will grow with time, like all good albums. I may report back if so! Later: Actually, it definitely does grow - it's not been far away from the stereo since I bought it.

Cinnamon: Not toast - pass the butter
OK, so I bought this cos guitarist Fred Frith appears on one cut, and as it was filed under Dance, I wasn't expecting a lot from it. In fact, it's way better then I thought. Cheap electro dance music with two amusing Japanese female vocalists. Several extra unlisted tracks (dontcha just hate 'em?) but the last one is an odd accapella thingy, and there's another Big Band version of the Big Hit Single 'Cakes & Pies'. Doubt I'll play it terribly often, but hey. Oh and Fred plays some very un-Frith like geetah too. Funnily enough, the day after I won this on eBay, I picked up the two other Cinnamon projects that FF appears on in Oxfam in Manchester. You really wanted to know that.
