Drama at it's best
Because of my work, when a new series comes on TV, I often fail to see it because I choose to record and watch the old familiar stuff. It means I very often find out about a good drama late into the season and this is how it was with West Wing. But once I had watched a few episodes I was hooked. This is American drama at it's best. The characters are believable, and there is a good mix of personalities. I was worried that there might be too much politics, but in fact there is a good mix between the work of the White House, and the personal stories behind the people. I decided to buy the seasons on DVD for two reasons. Firstly because I wanted to see what I missed in season 1, but also because I wanted to be able to have this whole show to watch in the future. If you like good drama, good characters that you get to like really fast, then treat yourself to the West Wing

Stylish but not worthy
Having decided to purchase as DVD hard drive recorder I wanted one that seemed to do everything I wanted it to. This Samsung certainly looked the part. Stylish and sleek, and with easily accessible USB port for linking to you computer, and at a reasonable price. I did find one or two annoying things. You cannot rearrange the channel listing, which means you have to troll through every single channel to look at the one you want. The on screen display when switching channels gives you no clue as to the programme you have just found. And I found the remote control less than responsive. However, within a couple of weeks I had trouble getting it to load DVD's. Sometimes it would take several attempts to get a DVD to play, the tray continually being opening with the on screen message This dvd can neither be recorded to or played. Then I started to notice that every so often it would freeze. Initially I put this down to the weather etc, affecting the signal. But I have a new digital aerial, a booster, and all new cables. This problem actually got worse, and then it was not just the live signal that was freezing but then it started to suddenly lock up whilst playing dvd's. When it froze there was no alternative but to turn the power off at the socket and reboot the system. After it froze up 5 times in a single day, and the unit being less than 3 months old I decided to return it and was given a full refund. I have since done some investigating, and found that this is a problem with this Samsung model

Quaid takes on the 4 Horsemen
Dennis Quaid looks slightly unkempt as widowed father of two boys. Whilst keeping on top of his job, and hiding from the pain of losing his wife, his older son takes over the role of parent. Come And See - the chilling message left at the scene of the crimes points to a serial killer - a killer Quaid is determined to catch before he completes his planned killings. Quaid plays his role well, torn between raising his kids, and the job of catching the killer. Ziyi Zhang is excellent in her role too. A decent story well enough told. Only 90 minutes long but it moves along at a pace that means it does not seem to be too short, nor does it pad out the story will unneccessary scenes. Just enough blood and gore to be scary without being gratuitous. Just watch out for the fish hooks - ouch! That's got to hurt!
