An absolute must for Jim Jim & Sunny fans!
I've been waiting for ages for the JJ & Sunny producers to finally bring out a DVD! My 5 year old autistic son is obsessed with JJ & Sunny, he usually gets bored of his 'obsessions' quite quickly & switches to something else but JJ & Sunny seem here to stay! The DVD is the perfect length at just over an hour long and contains 6 song packed, all action episodes. The extras are very good especially the 'songs' extra in which all the songs from the episodes are condensed and you can opt to to play them all or just one at a time. There's also a 'games' extra and 'friends' extra, in which you are introduced to all the characters and their fave things etc. I'll warn you now... The Wriggle Song will be a big hit with your little ones and before you know it you too will be 'wiggling' and 'giggling' and 'wriggling your bum'!!! As i said before the running time is just over an hour, long enough to be worth putting on (and to get some housework done!) - but not so long that even the most hardcore of fans will start to lose interest. Don't be surprised if you're asked to play it again... and again... and again though! I honestly cant think of anything that i dislike about this DVD or it's content. My son LOVES it and it's one of very few things that can keep him entertained for a period of time... & thats enough for me to love it too.

Different spin on the vamp genre
This isn't a great film, but it is good. I don't like to go into plot too much in a review - why bother watching the film if you know everything that's going to happen? - but briefly; a group of vampires turn up in the small Alaskan town of Barrow where, for 30 days (& nights), the sun doesn't rise. Perfect for the vamps, not quite so pleasant for the remaining residents who are all now on the menu. Usual horror rules apply here... most of the residents are dispatched quickly leaving the main characters to figure out how to survive until sunrise. As a horror film it doesn't offer anything really different to what's been seen before but what it does do is give a new & refreshing take on the vampire genre & that's it's saving grace. The vamps in this film are de-humanised beyond the norm seen in other films - i was reminded a bit of Boris Karloff in the old b/w Nosferatu film! They communicate in a different 'language' & there's certainly nothing sexy or glam about them! You can forget about the romantic 'suck on the neck' too - when these guys pounce they do so with about as much grace & elegance as a car crash! There's a lot of gore, a couple of 'make you jump' moments but i didn't find it had much suspense. I was disappointed with the ending - i thought it was quite lame. I categorise every film i watch into 3 groups: couldn't take my eyes off the screen, couldn't hold my full attention & couldn't care less. This film couldn't hold my full attention. It's definately worth watching but it's not a film that i'll be keeping in my collection.

Loved the twists at the end...
Having watched & enjoyed the first film, watching the second was a no-brainer for me! This film does follow on - briefly - from the first film (no good deed goes unpunished) before moving swiftly on to the gorgeous, picturesque East European setting we have come to know & love?! Yes, we're going back to Bratislava (remind me NEVER to book a holiday there!) In contrast to the first films hedonistic offset this film is softer and more subtle. You can't persuade us girls to head off to god-knows-where so easily as you can the lads with promises of cheap beer & even cheaper women! Nope, we want spa's & all the health benefits that go with them! Maybe because the film is now focusing on women Roth & Tarantino have taken a more intelligent approach to torture? This film goes into a lot more detail regarding the whole organisation of the 'company', how it operates, how victims are selected & by whom. We get to see the would-be torturers outside of the dungeons & yes, they seem like perfectly 'normal' people. There is still gore - obviously - but much less of it. Good or a bad thing? Depends on how much you prefer good ole fashioned gore to some character exploration. This film has definately substituted some of the bloody scenes in preference for introducing us in more depth to the characters that are bidding for victims to torture (is there nothing you cant buy from eBay???) Real action fans might find the first hour or so a bit slow but it is worth hanging in there as when the action between the main characters gets going there are a good couple of twists that have been very well written & also make knowing the characters personalities essential. I LOVED the ending! Call me sick but i call it poetic justice - word of warning to you guys though - cross your legs and prepare to wince :¬|
