Business InformationHistory/background
Fred and Germaine(Mimike) began collaborating in 1997 when they designed and created all of the clothing worn at their Native American wedding ceremony. Fred, an enrolled Prairie Band Potawatomi member, supplies the funding and business expertise. He selects the fabrics, helps to create the ribbonwork panels and is the final inspector for projects before they ship. Germaine sews...been sewing for 45 years now. She uses her skills as a pattern maker to bring the modern together with the traditional. The garments the couple create are very well sewn, made to be danced in and be worn. It is not uncommon for Germaine to recognize a shirt she sewed ten years ago still being treasured by the wearer. The clothing projects are stored with sweet grass while they await their turn at the sewing machine. Yes that's what the good smell is. The business name came from Germaine's childhood nickname. Mimike (mee-mee-kay) means butterfly in the Potawatomi language. May you find joy in today.
