Recommended for the phono inputs alone.
A classic NAD, with a sound that rarely produces listener fatigue. It can be brought up to date by having it recapped, replacing the main capacitors. However, I have a feeling that, unless the transistors are faulty, best to leave them alone for fear of losing the characteristic sonics. Weak points are the phono inputs which can become detached from their solder joints, and the plastic fascia which becomes a little brittle with age. Just remember that a lot of the old 20 series, including the 3020 and 3130, might have been a bit neglected. Clean all the phono inputs with something like Kontak or the stuff on sale from SRM on ebay -- the nickel-plate (like any metal plate) builds up deposits that can affect the sound. For, anyone thinking of getting into vinyl reproduction, the phono inputs of the 20 series have kept many analogue enthusiasts happy for many years, without having to resort to a pre amp separate. Any of the original NAD 20 series can compete with modern equivalent budget offerings from various makers today. They reproduced a sound that most people, at the time of production, had not heard coming out of an amplifier that cost so little.
