Seattle's finest deliver a great package!
Well, what can I say about Queensryche? The Seattle band has never failed to produce top of the line melodic technical metal and this release illustrates this perfectly. Perfect for anyone who wishes to check out the band for the first time or fans alike, Disc 1 has all the band's best known tracks from it's beginnings on their debut EP in the early 80's "Queen of the Reich" right through to 2007's "All the Promises" from Operation Mindcrime Part 2. Along the way there are the hits "jet City Woman" and "Silent Lucidity" from 1990's huge Empire album, "Real World" from The Last Action Hero soundtrack and the rare outtake "Until There Was You" from the under-rated Q2K album. Disc 2 has lots of interesting tracks for the die-hard fan/collector with early pre-Queensryche demos, rare B-sides and several live tracks. The band's excellent MTV Unplugged appearance is well represented here with the intensely atmospheric "Della Brown", whilst their UK launch of 1995's Promised Land opus produced an excellent semi-acoustic version of "Silent Lucidity." Finally for fans of the band's original line-up with Guitarist and founder member Chris DeGarmo the band have reunited to record the new song "Justified" for this release, an up-tempo rocker the will not disappoint! All in all an excellent representation of one of the finest bands in the world. Packaged in a cool Digipak fold out sleeve with extensive sleeve notes, I highly Recommend it! Fantastic double live album from Prog-rock Legends!
Recorded at 3 venues from 3 world tours this cd is chock full of inspiring melodic progressive music. Disc 1 begins with 6 tracks from the Holidays in Eden tour London 29/9/91, continuing with 6 more from the Afraid of Sunlight tour Rotterdam 29/9/95. This is Marillion at their melodic best with an immense tracklist including Easter, No One Can, Cover My Eyes and Afraid of Sunlight, as well as the huge single hit Kayleigh, sung to melodic perfection by Steve Hogarth. Disc 2 is the Brave album performed in it's entirety from an exceptional concert in Paris 29/4/94. The live version is even better than the studio album with a much better balance between the heavier and lighter moments. A true landmark in the band's history, Brave is recorded here immaculately with Living with the big Lie, Runaway, Mad and The Great Escape sounding particularly impressive here. All in all a fine live package from one of THE most important and enduring bands from the UK. With some great artwork featuring some great live pix and a selection of Steve Hogarth's tour diary extracts this release is simply world class! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

The start of something beautiful...
This was the album that shot Porcupine Tree onto the world stage. After several moderately successful independent albums during the 1990's, it was the departure of original drummer Chris Maitland in 2002, (replaced by the awesome Gavin Harrison) and Band founder/leader Steven Wilson's production stint with prog-death metal band Opeth that set a new revitalised musical course for the band. Along with Colin Edwin on bass and Richard barbieri on keyboards this line-up produced this concept piece dealing with the psyche of a serial killer, his background, dreams etc. Musically this has it all from Wilson's incredibly emotive lyrics to sonic landscapes of huge riffs, breathtaking solos, catchy choruses, ambient textures and ultimately truly memorable songs. Highlights include opener "Blackest Eyes" with a monstrous guitar riff, the beautiful acoustic led "Trains", the incredibly catchy "The Sound of Muzak" and the haunting multi-layered vocals of "Heart Attack in a layby". As a bonus this European edition includes a 2nd cd with 3 extra tracks-all excellent including live favourite "Drown with Me". The recording and production quality are absolutely immaculate, Steven Wilson excelling once again. If you are a fan of prog rock/metal you will love this album with influences ranging from Pink Floyd and Rush to Dream Theater and Opeth (no growly vocals tho!). Highly Recommended!! red_heart_tiger
