Hey, thanks for the comment. Since you like anime, maybe you can tell me if you have ever run across copies of the show Dragon Warrior(aka Dragon Quest in Japan). It was made in late 80's early 90's. They ran 13 episodes in the US in english before a lawsuit shut down all airings and video sales. Akira Toriyahma(not sure if that's how you spell his name) of Dragon Ball fame did the character designs for the games and the shows.

Well, at the core it would be more or less floating. Following inverse-square law (F=G*m1*m2/r^2) you will be almost permanently trapped at the core as the distance, r, between you and the center of mass is zero (F approaches infinity as r approaches zero). As for tunneling the second half, without free range of motion (rotational about the horizontal plane included) you would be forced to dig literally upside down and away from the massive force of gravity pulling what you would see as up, but feel as down. Also, the hole you dig would fill up with the more massive particles of our atmosphere, such as argon, CO2, SF6, etc., and more likely than not halt the trip before getting to far. The human body requires approximately 10-14% oxygen in air at sea level to maintain necessary gass diffusion ratios in the lungs. However, oxygen at the pressures deep in the hole would make it toxic as it begins destroying lung tissue by radical reaction at about a partial pressure of 0.5 atmospheres.

That was good question. The short answer is no. Since gravity is an inverse-square law and gravitational fields are generated by the center of mass, you would be digging above for the second half of the journey. The fact that you would also have to combat gravity pulling you down with some form of scaffolding is mired further by the lack of grounding force at the core. It would be hard to get supplies efficiently if they came at you at 120mph (terminal velocity in earth atmosphere). This of course is assuming the earth is made entirely of material similar to the crust.
