Superb!
Amazon Kindle Keyboard 4GB Wi-Fi 3G... Why I bought it: My daughter, an avid reader, has one & loves it. When I was grumbling to her that my laptop is too big! To use in my camper-van she suggested I give 3G on the Kindle a try. I didn't particularly want one for reading as I love books. What I like about it: Having handled it and read a couple of books on it, I have changed my mind about using it for reading. Its light, easy to use just about anywhere, I never loose my place if I have to put it down quickly. The glare that I get when reading on my husband's iPad is absent so it's not as tiring. I like that I can alter the page lay out, font and text size to suit me; really makes the read experience comfortable. The battery life seems to last for ever; I've only charged it up once so far and there's lots of life in it yet. The keyboard is a dodle to use, even with my aged hands and failing eyesight! It's a bit cumbersome, though, if you need to insert a mix of numbers and letters, i.e. when using dates or passwords. The 3G facility makes it quick and easy to down load books wherever I may be, and its free! Books can be downloaded from the computer from other sources, but so I haven't done that. It was easy to transfer PDF files using the USB cable. I am going to investigate Calibre ebook management, which may make sharing books more flexible http://calibre-ebook.com . What I dislike about it: Judging by the number of broken Kindles on Ebay I am guessing that they are not as robust as they look. A protective cover of some description is essential. I tried to buy one locally, but was told that they are not being made any more. Luckily they are still available on line Amazon had a few left and, of course, there are usually some on Ebay. I was lucky enough to buy 2 leather ones [just in case!] on Ebay. I sometimes accidentally touch the “Forward” button which is annoying, but I am a fidget! The 3G facility for browsing the internet, emails, etc is not as great as I hoped. It does work after a fashion, but is not as good as a computer or a phone [maps, for instance, are not in colour]. There's very little I dislike about the Kindle. Would I buy it again?: I hope I wont need to change for a long while, but when the time comes I probably would. I would certainly recommend one to anyone considering an e-reader at the present time.
