So Long Vaseline - Hello Colin!!!
Well here we are again! Series 3 has finally arrived and continues in the tradition of great show, great storylines, bugger all extras! Blue Watch are still in shock after the sudden loss of Vaseline in an underwater rescue tragedy. Malcolm takes it particulary hard as he gave the instruction to use breathing apparatus in an attempt to save the lives of the men whos van had slipped off a dock into the Thames. Josie Ingham the watch female officer moves onwards & upwards to another station but pops up from time to time. And then, there's Colin! Ah young Colin! Fresh from the training college, keen, fearless, clueless and so green he's almost luminous! All credit to actor Stephen North for such an excellent portayal. One minute you want to scream at the guy to grow up & get on with it, the other, you'll felling sorry for him & wish everyone would just give him a break. On the emergency side, there are a few good set pieces that the crew get their teeth stuck into. A fire on a boat, a worker trapped on machininary halfway up a high tower block, workers trapped alive under a trench and a chemical lorry collision. All done with the convincing realism of a pre-CGI era. High marks then for the series, low for the production company Newtork DVD for no extras and long waits between series. Grab a copy on Ebay today & lose a quality 400 minutes of yourlife!!

The one with the Special Feature!
Another quality season with the boys & girls of Blackwall fire station. This time the've brought along a special feature too in the shape of a behind the scenes feature about the stars & stunts. How about some out-takes or deleted scenes next time round Network? As for the shows, out goes Station Officer Tate and in comes Nick (Zorba) Georgiadis & Stuart "Recall" McKenzie. 10 episodes in total with some big shouts to keep you entertained. Episodes 9 & 10 run as a two parter with some long term knock on effects as Bayleaf & Hallam get burried alive under a collapsing wall and the team race to get them out before it's too late. I can't recommend this series enough for those that either enjoyed it the 1st time round or hanker for a little bit of nostalgic 90's TV where CGI doesn't reign supreme & the action feels real. Many times I was moved to tears or to the edge of my seat as I got caught up in the emotion of the moment. Network appear to be picking up the pace with releasing this series and with a bit of careful shopping around you can pick up a cracking bargin to while away over 500 minutes of your life on. Can't wait for the next installment!

    You're Knicked Sunshine!
Another trip down memory lane courtesy of series 2 of the long running police drama. Shown on TV from November '85 & February '86 it still manages to look suprisingly fresh. 12 episodes in total over 3 discs will keep you going for around 600 minutes (10 hours) but once again there's nothing to be offered in the way of extras. A great shame considering how long the shows been running. Surely there must be some spare footage of bloopers, deleted or exetended scenes or at least smoe biographies of the actors who played their roles for so long. Fingers crossed for future release improvements but not holding my breath! So why the 4/5 mark when there's no extras? Simple. I was a big fan of the series from the start and intend to collect every release. There's not many shows that have run for so long (20 years so far) that'll give you the opportunity to watch from the start as the characters come, leave and grow into what you may see on the screen each week. Plus, I used to live around the corner from the second site for Sun Hill police station (Mitcham, Surrey) and managed to appear in the background on 3 occasions (Woo!) Pick up a copy on E-bay as it's still a very high price in the shops and enjoy another slice of 80's drama.
