Good alternative to contract home broad-band for low volume users
i bought this for my parents who are in their 70's because it was a way for them to get broadband without having to get it installed in their house and have to get involved with a contract and talking jargon down the phone with ISP providers. The unit is simple to use with a single button for on-off and a second button to give the network id and password. We used it over the last 4 days and had no problems. Of course you must be in a reception area of 3 to use it.

Well integrated Internet connected AV Amp
I bought this product primarily because of the internet connectivity and because it is relatively new and therefore has the better amplification circuitry. I have not previously owned any serious amplifiers. Setup - There is an automatic process for speaker configuration which takes about 10 minutes. Menus were relatively easy to follow but the set up did indicate a wrongly connected speaker. The instructions say this can happen even when speakers are correctly setup. To my ears they appear ok, I may re-try setup later. Internet network connection was easy although I am not a complete novice when setting up connectioned. I connected a network plug and cable to the relevant ethernet cable. On network connection I was able to run a firmware update so I ran that which took around 15-20 minutes and went without a hitch. I downloaded the free Yamaha AV App for OS and it worked easily and found the device on my network. This means you can remotely control it from anywhere within WiFi range. I have done Airplay to the Amp and played Internet stations. Another positive is that the device does not appear to run very hot when in use. I have given it a very generous ventilation space at the moment though. Negative aspects would be - Remote control device is complicated. I still have to learn some of this. - Internet Radio Stations navigation is basic and the genres are fairly general for the type of music I am listening to. - The controls available via the Yamaha App are more limited but include Scene Settings (stereo versus 5:1 for example) and input sources and other things that I not checked out yet. Overall so far I am very pleased. Sound quality appears good but as I said I have not had a serious amp before and that also depends on what speakers you have connected.
