Sony Playstation 3 Slim 250gb PS3
Having owned the original Playstation from when it came out (big grey rectangular one), and also the Playstation 2, I almost felt obliged by Sony to purchase this new PS3 Slim. I had done my research, and plenty there was to be done before i bought this console, and came to the conclusion that, the pro's definitely outweigh the cons. Pro's: 1) The graphics! Wow, HD gaming at its best. Most titles released now are playable in up to 1080p format which when you have a Full HD capable TV, it will blow you away. 2) Blu-ray. This is the next generation of DVDs, they are very large capacity discs (some more than 10x the size of a dvd) which can hold high definition video capture. The quality is just unreal, and some websites you can pick them up brand new cheaper than the dvd equivalent. Also Sony have recently update the firmware of the PS3 to enable it to play 3D Blu-rays (with a 3D compatible TV). 3) Size and Efficiency. The Slim line version of the PS3 is 33% smaller, 36% lighter and consumes 34% less energy than the previous, larger generations of Playstation 3s. Much better if you are struggling for space in your home, or just don't want to clog up room where it is placed. 4) No subscription cost for online play. Unlike its rival console, it is free to play online. All you need is an internet connection, either wired or wireless, and it is so easy to set up. Cons: 1) Expensive game titles. £45 and upwards for a game is daylight robbery, yet some people are still more than happy to pay it. Although to our advantage, there is a rise in discount websites (play.com, amazon.co.uk etc.) that offer the titles much cheaper if you are willing to wait until the "honeymoon period" is over. 2) The need to download and install software every time you play a new game. This frustrates me quite a lot, you are excited to play a new game, you put the disc in and BAM! download 110MB before it will even install, and then it takes an hour to actually install, not happy with Sony about this one. So, all in all, I would highly recommend this gaming platform as it is so easy to use, great graphics and very well made console. 9/10.
